Match Day 9 Postponed Due to COVID-19 Lock Down

JAMAICA PREMIER LEAGUE

KINGSTON, JAMAICA

Thursday, August 21, 2021

With the Government’s announcement of no-movement days under the COVID Risk Management Measures, the Jamaica Premier League matches scheduled for August 21, 22, 23, 29, 30, and September 5, 2021, have all been impacted. The Jamaica Football Federation, JFF, has made the following amendments to the schedule as it relates to Matchday 9 of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

• Games scheduled for this weekend, August 21-23, are rescheduled to Friday & Saturday, August 27 & 28.
• The proposed triple header times for Friday, August 27 are 10:00am, 1:00pm & 3:30pm.
• The times for the doubleheader on Saturday, August 28 remain at 12:00noon & 2:30 pm.

The updated schedule will be circulated by the JFF with further details.

Chris Williams, PFJL Chairman shared that “Our first responsibility in executing the Jamaica Premier League is to do so in full partnership with the government as they work to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Having to reschedule is unfortunate, especially as the League continues to put all efforts into compliance, however, we fully understand and support the measures. I take the opportunity to congratulate the Clubs on the high vaccination rate in the League, through the efforts of the Ministry of Sport, and encourage all Jamaicans to go out and help save lives by getting the vaccine.”

ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL JAMAICA LIMITED (PFJL)
In order to achieve the transformation of professional football in Jamaica, the Clubs have established the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFLJ) to replace the previous body that managed the league. The body will be initially headed by a General Manager and a full team that will be enhanced to address the areas of commercialization – the development and execution of the new commercialization strategy, branding, marketing, and international business development to support two of the main pillars: commercialization and talent development. The new team will be governed by a board to include, for the first time, independent directors from which an independent Chair will be selected.

The PFJL is responsible for the implementation of the new Strategic Business Plan for the League in the context of the wider strategy to professionalize football in Jamaica. It is dedicated to the creation of a sustainable league by 2023.
